During the past couple of years, people from all across the state have begun to recognize the growing problem of gang activity in local communities. The Senate’s anti-gang legislation takes a proactive approach in attempting to stop gang activity and the needless violence that gangs create.
This legislation helps authorities across the state crack down on increasing gang violence by placing gang activity under the purview of the state grand jury. In recognizing criminal gang activity, this bill establishes more stringent sentencing guidelines for convicted gang members.

Throughout this past legislative session, we as a Senate, took great strides in making South Carolina a safer place to live. We worked hard to ensure the safety of all South Carolinians by putting additional troopers on the road and addressing the dilemma of increased gang activity.

There are good reasons to make English the “official” language of this nation, although there are arguments on both sides of the question. It’s the kind of thing that stirs emotions and that can overwhelm some of the more down to earth realities that influence lives ….. and deaths.
State Senator Glenn McConnell, R-Charleston, President Pro Tempore of the Senate puts it in proper perspective that ought to get a lot of attention. He thinks South Carolina should stop giving driver’s license tests in foreign languages. In fact, he says if the Department of Motor Vehicles doesn’t change its policy he will introduce legislation to force it to do so.
There are sure to be critics of that idea, but it’s not a punitive thought. It makes good sense ….. and it could save a lot of lives on the state’s highways.
Senator McConnell on English only DMV testing

Senator Glenn McConnell has vowed to introduce legislation next year to demand that the SC DMV begin testing potential drivers in English only. He discussed the issue tonight on WSPA.
