‘Green buildings’ good for environment, economy

The South Carolina General Assembly deserves a big pat on the back for its overwhelming passage of the “Energy Independence and Sustainable Construction Act,” otherwise known as the “Green Buildings Bill” (H. 3034). Despite Gov. Mark Sanford’s veto, this legislation became law after a landslide vote of 90-13 in the House and a unanimous override vote in the Senate.

Senate Republicans wrap up successful session

S. C. Senate Republicans, led by Majority Leader Harvey Peeler, today celebrated the end to one of the most successful sessions in recent memory.  In a legislative year that saw
unprecedented tax cuts for the people of the state, members of the
Senate Republican Caucus also brought monumental reform to both the
Department of Transportation and the state’s Workers’ Compensation
system.  Issues such as education, the replacement of the state’s
school buses, healthcare, drunk driving, and comprehensive illegal
immigration reform were also addressed successfully in the Senate this
session.

Campsen, 48, has served District 43, which includes parts of Berkeley and Charleston counties, in the Senate since 2005 and in the House from 1997 to 2002.

The Republican from the Isle of Palms is a member of the following Senate committees: Agriculture and Natural Resources; Fish, Game and Forestry; Invitations; Judi?ciary; Rules; and Transportation.

Campsen, an attorney, is also a businessman. He graduated from Fur?man University and the University of South Carolina. He has his captain’s license and is vice president of Fort Sumter Tours Inc. He also works as a commercial real estate broker.

Thomas: ‘Angels for Autism’ made a difference

The following op-ed by Senators David Thomas and Joel Lourie ran today in The State newspaper. It discusses the passage of Ryan’s Law, the legislation recently passed requiring insurance companies to provide coverage for children with autism.
