Throughout the past legislative sessions, an incredible amount of time was spent researching and debating insurance coverage for individuals diagnosed with autism.
The Senate bill, S.20, directs insurance companies to provide insurance coverage for autism to their customers. Not only will this mandate apply to private insurance companies, but will also include the state health plan as well.

As you know, healthcare plays a tremendous role in Florence County and throughout the entire state. The healthcare community provides a great number of jobs and opportunities for many people, while also contributing a large amount of economic impact.
Our state has been very fortunate in attracting individuals to the healthcare community who have such outstanding skills and knowledge which strengthens the industry as a whole. A part of the nursing success is a direct product of Florence-Darlington Technical College and Francis Marion University. They both have experienced and well-versed faculty, which gives the students a greater opportunity to succeed. In turn, these students become the nurses who assist in strengthening the Pee Dee as a medical community.

Florence’s Pee Dee Patriotic Parade got a $3,000 boost today from the State Budget and Control Board.
State Sen. Hugh Leatherman’s chief of staff, Robby Dawkins, presented the check at the U.S. Army Reserve Center. Leatherman was ill and unable to attend.

When Mobile Meals of Spartanburg founder Jayne McQueen learned Saturday afternoon that she had been awarded the Order of the Palmetto, the state’s highest civilian honor, her face turned as red as the distinctive Mobile Meals shirts her volunteers were wearing.
After weeks of behind-the-scenes work by her colleagues, McQueen had no idea that state Sen. Jim Ritchie, R-Spartanburg, would step to the podium during Mobile Meals’ 30th anniversary celebration and present her the award from Gov. Mark Sanford.
