After two days of debate, the South Carolina Senate
adopted and approved legislation (S. 856) requesting the United States
Congress call a Constitutional Convention concerning the local
enforcement of federal immigration law. The bill seeks to push congress
toward some definitive action on illegal immigration.

Senators began debate Tuesday on a proposal to call for a national constitutional convention on the issue of illegal immigration, with one senator calling it “dangerous.”
Senate President Pro Tempore Glenn McConnell of Charleston said he doesn’t believe his proposal will ever be realized because if enough states call for a convention, Congress will act.
However, Sen. Brad Hutto, an Orangeburg Democrat, called it an “extreme measure.” Read more

In the Senate, there’s no question that things move swiftly, and you have to be able to juggle a lot of information, pay close attention to what’s going on, and give careful consideration to every bill. It’s a challenge, to be sure, but it’s a challenge that I am enjoying – mainly because I can represent you.
