Martin Bill to Stop Automatic Dial Campaign Calls
Filed Under Martin, Top News | Leave a Comment
Columbia, SC- Senator Larry Martin (R- Pickens) introduced a bill today (S. 1019) amending the South Carolina statues relating to the Do Not Call list. During the weeks leading up to the recent primaries South Carolinians where overwhelmed by the number of phone calls from campaigns soliciting support. The bill closes a loophole to prevent the use of automatically dialed announcing devices (adad) to make political campaign calls.
I hope this amendment will close the gap on the automatic dial calls from political campaigns, says Senator Martin. The number of calls that were reported to me, and the number of calls that I personally received bordered on harassment. People should have some recourse and opportunity to stop these intrusive calls.
Currently, South Carolina citizens can report violations to the Department of Consumer Affairs. Violations can result in penalties of up to $100 for the first violation, $200 for a second violation, and $1,000 for a third or subsequent violations. The bill was sent to the Judiciary Committee for additional review.
