Cromer: Seated as New Chairman of Senate Fish, Game and Forestry
Today, as the 118th South Carolina General Assembly reconvened, Senator Ronnie Cromer (R-Newberry) assumed the Chairmanship
of the Senate Fish, Game and Forestry Committee.
“Hunting and fishing are two very important traditions in South Carolina and my goal as committee Chairman will be to work toward
developing policies that will promote, protect and preserve the outdoor experience,” says Senator Cromer. “Outdoor activities provide a
great opportunity for young people to interact with adults of all ages. I will work diligently to promote outdoor activities, like hunting and
fishing, to young South Carolinians as a positive alternative to things like gangs and less positive activities.”
Senator Cromer is also very committed to protecting the natural resources that have helped agribusiness and forestry become the top
revenue producers for South Carolina. “It is important that South Carolina protect our natural resources not only to maintain our quality
of life, but to also protect the top revenue producers for the state,” says Senator Cromer. “I am committed to continuing the conservation
efforts that have brought us to this point.”
A September 2008 study by the South Carolina Agribusiness Council and the South Carolina Forestry Association found that agribusiness and
forestry have surpassed manufacturing and tourism as the state’s top revenue producers, generating $33.9 billion annually.
Senator Cromer has served on the Fish, Game and Forestry Committee since he was elected to the Senate in 2003. Senator Cromer will also
serve on the following Senate Committees: Banking and Insurance, Finance, General, Invitations, and Rules.
Other members of the Fish, Game and Forestry Committee include Senators: Paul Campbell (R-Berkeley), Chip Campsen (R-Charleston),
Creighton Coleman (D-Fairfield), Dick Elliot (D-Horry), Michael Fair (R-Greenville), Larry Grooms (R-Berkeley), Brad Hutto (D-Orangeburg),
