Knotts Extends Invitations to Skate Parties
Columbia, S.C. – February 23, 2010 – Anybody who knows Sen. Jake Knotts knows he will do whatever it takes to give every student in his district the possibility to live out their dreams. He also believes in celebrating accomplishments by those students. That’s why he’s inviting the media to come along, lace up their skates, and give it a go with the best Lexington County has to offer.
This is an annual effort from the Senator, who want to show students that make the honor roll that they’re appreciated by their community. As a legislator who is very close to his constituents, Sen. Knotts understands how important having a good education is to students from his district.
“This is where it all happens. If you don’t get a good education, you don’t get a good job, then that will cause problems to provide a good living for your family,” Knotts said. “Fortunately, over the years we’ve been able to create a great atmosphere for public education here in Lexington County, which is why we have one of the lowest
unemployment levels in the state.”
Knotts continued, “We can’t stop, though. We need to show these students how much we appreciate their hard work. That’s why I’m doing things like the skate party. When students do well, we need to show them that their work is being recognized.”
The skate parties aren’t something that Knotts just came up with. 2010 marks the 17th year he has hosted the parties. He knows that school districts are hurting for money, and doesn’t want them to be spending money from their budgets that could be used for classroom instruction.
“Teachers and administrators are doing everything they can to educate our children,” Knotts said. “It’s up to the community to chip in and take up the slack to celebrate when students perform at their best.”
