Massey, Anderson Get Their Answer

After months of diligent campaigning and back-and-forth ads that at times, got downright ugly….it all came down to Tuesday night.

As ballots poured in…so did the calls, keeping candidates busy tallying the numbers.

Greg Anderson, Democratic Candidate for District 25: “Feeling good, feeling good, good turnout today, everybody’s worked hard, and we’re very optimistic at this point.”

Sen. Shane Massey, Republican Candidate for District 25: “Feel pretty good; feel pretty good, you know, we still don’t have a lot of numbers. The only thing we know so far is Edgefield County, and we’re waiting on the rest of the counties to report.”

Republican senator Shane Massey won Edgefield first over democrat Greg Anderson…and Massey would go on to take Aiken and McCormick shortly after that.

But both candidates continued to spell out their advantages over each other, even as the night went on…and ballots kept pouring in.

Anderson: “Main thing that I wanted to convince the voters of is that I’m one of them.”

Massey: “But I just believe that we’ve been doing the same thing in South Carolina for so long, for years and years, and we’ve been getting the same results.”

It got close in some places–very close. McCormick County had a record 80% turnout. With more than 5000 voters casting their ballots for District 25…in the end, just five votes separated the two candidates.

By ten o’clock, it was over. And one final phone call came –Greg Anderson, offering Senator Massey his congratulations.

The final numbers for the district were 54% of voters for Massey, 46% for Anderson.
