McConnell: Resignation of Senator Moore

Senator Glenn McConnell released the following statement on the resignation of Senator Tommy Moore (Aiken) from the South Carolina Senate.  “As President Pro Tempore of the South Carolina Senate, I wanted to express how much Senator Moore’s retirement from the South Carolina Senate means to the Senate and to the people of South Carolina.  I had the honor of serving with Senator Moore for over 20 years.  During that time, I worked with him on numerous projects that impacted South Carolina and made it better for our friends and neighbors.”

“He has meant so much to this state and his leaving creates a void in the Senate that will be hard to fill.  He was always known in the Senate as the person to go to when there was a particularly difficult problem and when results were needed.  Because of Senator Moore, the State of South Carolina has judicial election reform, tort reform, Public Service Commission and Santee Cooper Reform, property tax reform, and DOT reform.  He was also the force behind strengthening our state’s ethics and campaign laws.  His fingerprints are all over most of the important legislation that has been enacted in this State.”

Finally, we should all pause to thank Senator Moore for his service to the State of South Carolina.  Likewise we should thank his wife Dale and his two children Brent and Baylen for the sacrifices that they made so that their father could serve his State and many others.  While we are saddened by his departure from the South Carolina Senate, we should take solace in the legacy that he leaves for those that follow of exemplary public service.  We also wish Senator Moore and his family the best in their future endeavors.”
