Senator W. Greg Ryberg believes REAL ID is a threat to South Carolina

COLUMBIA, SC – Senator W. Greg Ryberg (R-Aiken) agreed with Governor Mark Sanford’s comments at today’s REAL ID press conference in the Statehouse.

Senator Ryberg believes Governor Sanford did absolutely the right thing today. Senator Ryberg said the REAL ID threatens to cost the South Carolina government tens of millions of dollars every year and South Carolina drivers hundreds of extra dollars over their lifetimes. The REAL ID threatens to return DMV waiting rooms into places where citizens spend one to two hours applying for a license.

Senator Ryberg said, “The federal government, by the words of their own spokespeople, views an extension as compliance. South Carolina law says that we cannot comply. The governor had no choice but to decline making such a request.”
